May 23, 2007 While the X6 crossover is still very much in the development stages, AutoWeek reports that BMW is planning a smaller crossover as well. No official announcement has been made on the X6, nor have any prototypes been paraded around auto shows — expect these later this year — only spy photos have been snapped (see "Spied! X6 Crossover"), so the smaller crossover is likely several years away. The X6 is based on the X5 Sports Activity Vehicle. The smaller crossover will be based on the 3 Series cars.
